Woodlands Children’s Home
Woodlands Children’s Home (or also known as Woodlands Home), was established in 1944 in Wallsend, Newcastle by the United Protestant Association (“UPA”). The Home eventually just became a boys’ Home when the girls were relocated to Ellimata Home in East Maitland, NSW. Woodlands was closed in July 1981 and converted to a community Centre by the UPA.
Online information indicates that the late Anglican priest, Peter Rushton, might have sexually abused boys from Woodlands. In 2013, the UPA issued an unreserved apology for what might have occurred as it is alleged that Peter Rushton and other perpetrators such as Mr Robert Holland (who was later convicted of 42 offences for sexually abusing eight children), as part of an organised ring of paedophiles, took children from the home on Sunday afternoons under the guise of a “children’s Christian program” to sexually abuse them.
Moody Law has in the past and is still representing clients who have made allegations of sexual and physical abuse when they were placed in a children’s home or orphanage in the state of NSW. We are currently assisting a client who was made allegations of sexual abuse whilst he was placed at another home managed by the UPA.
We invite former victims or witnesses to tell us confidentially what information they may have, and we will explain what options are available to help with these cases.
