Brother John Joseph Donnellan

Brother John Donnellan (known by his religious name as Brother ‘Bede’ Donnellan) was born 12 December 1936 and passed away on 26 May 1995. He completed his final vows in 1965 with the St John of God Brothers. Through the 1960s and 1970s, Brother Donnellan was a member of the religious community at various St John of God Brothers institutions and schools, including in New South Wales, Victoria and New Zealand. He was appointed to a senior position in the community at a St John of God Brothers institution in Queensland in July 1979.

The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse looked at the behaviour of Brother Donnellan and found that a total of five claims (all involving males) relating to incidents of child sexual abuse were made against Brother Donnellan during his service with the St John of God Brothers. The five allegations were made between 1954 to 1992, and they occurred in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland.

Moody Law has in the past and is still currently representing clients who were victims of child sexual abuse by members of the St John of God Brothers.
